Pensacola Catholic alum Chris Rembert is officially a professional baseball player.
After being drafted 51st overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB Draft in July 11, the Auburn second baseman signed with the team on July 22. Rembert’s slot value was estimated at $1.94 million.
A draft-eligible sophomore, Rembert slashed .343/.399/.459 with 13 doubles, 12 stolen bases, four home runs and 46 RBIs, garnering first team All-SEC honors as he helped lead the Tigers to the No. 4 overall seed and a super regional appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
As a freshman he slashed .344/.467/.555 with 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs on his way to second team All-SEC honors, becoming Auburn’s first All-SEC freshman since 2008. He was ranked the No. 47 overall prospect in the draft by MLB.com.
Prior to two stellar years on the Plains, Rembert starred at Pensacola Catholic. A four-year varsity starter, he batted .441 with 21 home runs, 109 RBIs, 52 stolen bases and 149 runs scored, winning PNJ Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2024.
His career batting average is the program record, while he also holds program records for most runs scored in a single season (49) and career.
Rembert is one of two Pensacola Catholic alums who were drafted this year as 2023 alumnus and Dayton outfielder Michael Smith Jr. was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 13th round. Smith is also expected to begin his pro career.
Rembert’s older brother, Brandon, has worked in the Pirates scouting department since 2022 and now serves as an area supervisor, overseeing northern Louisiana, Oklahaoma and north Texas.
