Are you looking for a delectable treat to satisfy your sweet tooth? One of the best donut shops in the United States is just a short trip away across the Alabama border, according to USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.
The annual rankings highlight the best in travel, food and lifestyle, and winners are chosen by a public voting poll after being nominated by industry experts.
In the 2025 dessert awards, ranking various desserts like pies, cookies and candy across the country, City Donut in Orange Beach, Alabama, ranked second in the best donut category.
Here’s everything to know about the award-winning donut shop before grabbing a treat there this summer.
City Donut ranked No. 2
Your mouth will water as soon as you see City Donut’s fresh offerings. Choose from traditional yeast or cake donuts that come in a variety of flavors such as Key lime-filled, Oreo-topped, and maple iced. To up the decadence, grab a milkshake or Boba drink to go with your sweet treat.
City Donut is locally owned and family owned and has operated since 2013. At the shop, bakers work throughout the night and day make the best made-from-scratch donuts.
They don’t stop there, however. The shop offers a full ice cream menu including hand-spun shakes, sundaes and splits, as well as 16 flavors of Boba drinks.
City Donut is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., but visitors are warned to arrive early for the best selection. The shop is located at 25751 Perdido Beach Boulevard, A-5, in Orange Beach at the Publix Shopping Center.
Owners Kris and Mike Kelly also opened a second shop this year in Perdido, City Coffee and Ice Cream, which features locally roasted fresh coffee, as well as their signature ice cream, sundaes and milkshakes. That shop is located at 13700 Perdido Key Drive, A105.
