The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, along with the Okaloosa County School District and The Salvation Army Florida Division – Fort Walton Beach Corps are joining forces again for the annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive on Aug. 1.
From 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on that day, people can participate in the annual event by bringing supplies to the Walmart locations in Crestview, Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. Donations collected during the event will help ensure students across Okaloosa County have the essential tools needed to begin the school year. School begins Aug. 11.
“Stuff the Bus is a wonderful example of our community coming together to support students and families,” said Okaloosa County School Superintendent Marcus Chambers in a news release.
“Every notebook, backpack, and box of crayons donated helps remove barriers to learning and gives students the confidence to start the school year successfully,” Chambers said in the release.
Stuff the Bus will be held during Florida’s back-to-school tax-free month, which will give people the opportunity to purchase and donate school supplies as they shop.
In addition to Walmart being a drop off spot, other donation boxes will be placed at businesses throughout the county. Site locations will be announced as they are confirmed and shared on the district website and social media channels.
Businesses and organizations interested in serving as a collection site are encouraged to participate. For more information or to sign up, please contact Debbie Tate at 850-974-0742 or tated@okaloosaschools.com.
