Now You Know: More Shake Shacks, ‘Wandering Goat’ adopts cause

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! There’s been a lot of it. Here’s what I’m hearing:

First Naples, and now Estero. Shake Shack is coming to Coconut Point. The chain has been actively expanding in the Sunshine State, with locations in Mercato, and further up the road in Sarasota and Tampa.

Plans are also in the works for a second Naples location, at the former Pollo Tropical on restaurant row, Freedom Square, Collier Boulevard near 41, in South Naples.

Wandering Goat at Riptide Brewing

Grumpy Goat Coffee’s next Wandering Goat event is from 3 until 7 p.m., Saturday, June 27, at Riptide Brewing, 28120 Hunters Ridge Blvd., Bonita Springs.

The event sees a new direction for the annual Wandering Goat summer series, shifting the focus of the events toward building awareness about the Bonita Estero Rail Trail (BERT) initiative.

Friends of the Bonita Estero Rail Trail (BERT) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect and advance the BERT greenway as a conserved natural corridor with a connected multi-use trail.

“Wandering Goat has always been about community connection,” said Brian Abernathy, founder of Grumpy Goat Coffee. “This summer, we’re expanding that mission by creating opportunities for residents to learn about BERT, ask questions, and understand how this project could shape the future of our city.”

Three craft coffee beer collaborations between Riptide and Grumpy Goat will be available.

The event is open to the public. Attendees can meet their local master coffee roaster, craft brewer and other artisan food and beverage experts in a casual, family and pet friendly setting.

Additional exhibitors include The Hoppy Homestead, Kristi’s Key Lime Cookies, Olde Naples Chocolate, and Granny-O-La. Event questions can be submitted at grumpygoat.com.

Sunshine Ace Hardware raises $21K for children’s healthcare

Sunshine Ace Hardware raised $21,326 to support pediatric health care through their annual “Spring Round Up.”

Throughout the month of April, customers at Sunshine Ace Hardware retail stores in Collier, Lee, Charlotte and Pinellas counties joined Crowder Bros. Ace Hardware locations in Manatee County in rounding up their purchases or choosing a specific dollar amount to donate at check-out.

Donations made at Sunshine Ace Hardware stores in Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties support Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida through Children’s Miracle Network.

“The Spring Round Up is our final fundraising event before summer, so we always want to make a strong push because children’s hospitals need year-round support from the community,” said Michael Wynn, president of Sunshine Ace Hardware.

Since December 2019, the Naples-based company has raised $565,867 through a variety of fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

Humane Society Naples expands veterinary services

Patty Baker Humane Society Naples is welcoming new patients at the Yawney Family Veterinary, expanding access to veterinary care for pet owners throughout Southwest Florida.

The clinic began accepting new patients beginning May 12. Located at 370 Airport-Pulling Road North in Naples, the full-service Yawney Family Veterinary Clinic provides wellness exams, vaccinations, preventive care, diagnostics and additional veterinary services for both community pets and the animals in the organization’s care.

“This expansion allows us to serve our community in an even greater capacity,” said Becca Morris, CEO of Patty Baker Humane Society Naples. “For years, the clinic has supported pets adopted through PBHSN. Now, we’re excited to extend our affordable, high-quality veterinary services to all pet owners in our community while continuing to advance our mission of keeping pets safe, health and in loving homes.”

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, call the main shelter at 239-643-2143.

Pup in CROW’s care recovering after surgery

The young coyote pup we first old you about last week, receiving treatment at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife after a suspected vehicle strike in Cape Coral has undergone successful surgery to repair a broken front leg.

The pup was admitted to CROW on May 8 at approximately seven weeks old with a broken leg and head trauma. Surgery was performed by board-certified veterinary surgeon Dr. Christopher Ferrell of BluePearl Pet Hospital in Fort Myers.

“I am always happy to help with the care of Florida wildlife to hopefully have them successfully returned to the wild,” said Ferrell.

The pup recovered well from the surgery and is continuing to heal in CROW’s care.

Since 2023, 25 coyotes have been treated or brought to CROW. The nonprofit wildlife hospital has seen 2,521 patients so far in 2026.
