North Fort Myers man arrested in brutal homicide

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has made a swift arrest in a North Fort Myers homicide case.

On May 1, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of a suspect, 44-year-old Alain Wilfredo Samon Cuadra, who is accused of second-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Lee County jail.

The arrest follows the death of a woman on Thursday, April 30, found with multiple lacerations and puncture wounds. Lee County Sheriff’s deputies made the discovery after responding to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 16000 block of Shelby Lane in North Fort Myers.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts by Emergency Medical Services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.

In a statement Facebook, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said: “This is brutal, unacceptable violence — and it will not be tolerated in Lee County. A life was taken in a horrific way, and my deputies acted quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect. Let me be clear: if you commit this kind of violence, we will find you, we will arrest you, and you will be held fully accountable under law.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect fled the scene in a white work van, but he was quickly located by K9 units in a nearby wooded area and arrested without resistance.

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Major Crimes Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

Witnesses confirmed the suspect was seen with the victim immediately before and during the incident. Evidence suggests the suspect and the victim knew each other and lived together.

This investigation remains active, as the Major Crimes Unit continues to work closely with the State Attorney’s Office, to determine exactly what happened and how to proceed with the criminal case.
