Anti-Trump protests have erupted nationwide over the last week, and thousands of No Kings protests are organized nationwide for Saturday, June 14.
No Kings protests will coincide with Flag Day, President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration and military parade taking place in Washington, D.C.
There are over 80 protests planned in Florida, including three on the Treasure Coast.
Here’s what to know about the protests.
What is ‘No Kings’ protest?
No Kings is a nationwide protest organized in response to Trump, his administration and immigration policies.
“No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism — and show the world what democracy really looks like,” according to the nokings.org website. “On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t — to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”
One core principle of No Kings is a commitment to nonviolent action. The organization’s website states that participants should seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with dissenters and act lawfully.
Who is behind the No Kings protests?
The 50501 Movement is an organization dedicated to upholding the Constitution and ending executive overreach, according to its website. The name stands for 50 states, 50 protests and one movement.
Another event organizer is Indivisible, which calls itself “a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.”
Formed in 2016, Indivisible said it “rejects all forms of political violence and intimidation, no matter the source or the target.”

There are over 80 protests planned for Florida, including three on the Treasure Coast, with one in Port St. Lucie, one in Vero Beach and one in Sebastian. Find an event near you here.
Some cities where protests are planned are Miami, Tampa and West Palm Beach, including a No Kings Caravan March to Mar a Lago and Meyer Rally near Trump’s residence in West Palm Beach.
What are your rights in Florida when it comes to protesting?
The First Amendment generally prohibits restrictions on speech, according to the ACLU of Florida. However, this does not mean the Constitution completely protects all types of speech in every circumstance.
“For example, threatening someone with violence is not protected,” the organization writes on its website. “Additionally, government officials are allowed to place certain reasonable, nondiscriminatory, and narrowly drawn ‘time, place, and manner’ restrictions on the exercise of First Amendment rights.”
Florida Statutes 871.015 state that a person may not “knowingly engage in protest activities or knowingly cause protest activities to occur within 500 feet of the property line of a residence, cemetery, funeral home, house of worship, or other location during or within one hour before or one hour after the conducting of a funeral or burial at that place.”
