With the government shutdown finally coming to an end on Nov. 12, it should mean smoother sailing for people traveling by air.
In recent weeks, with extra strain on the TSW workforce and air traffic controllers, airports have been stressful as far as not knowing if flights were going to be delayed or cancelled. As of 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 there were 20 delays and two cancellations at RSW.
The end of the shutdown is good news at RSW where one week from today (Nov. 20) a new seasonal route offered by American Airlines to Phoenix will begin.
That’s right. Mountains. Desert. Cactus. It’s a lot different in Arizona than it is in Florida in many ways. But a few things these two places have in common are great weather, great golf courses and great dining and entertainment.
This holiday season people living in Southwest Florida and Phoenix will be able to travel nonstop between the two destinations. American Airlines announced the route on June 26, via a press release from the Lee County Port Authority. It will be new nonstop service between Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers and Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX).
When will the nonstop flights from RSW to Phoenix start?
The RSW-PHX flights on a Boeing 737 will operate daily from Nov. 20 to Dec. 3, 2025 and Dec. 18, 2025 to Jan. 6, 2026. It’s its press release about the holiday route, American said “known for beaches, coastal islands and fresh seafood, a visit to Southwest Florida offers the perfect complement of warm sun before or after a winter sports getaway.”
