Nicholas Novickis has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after being arrested Saturday, May 23, for a shooting that took place in the Artistry neighborhood of Sarasota.
Novickis continues to be held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond, and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has yet to release the names of the two victims or a motive for the killings. Novickis was also charged with animal cruelty.
Deputies responded around 11:45 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a home in the 4700 block of Mondrian Court. Two people were found dead on the back porch of the residence, according to the sheriff’s office, and Novickis was taken into custody.
According to Sarasota Property Appraiser records, a home located in the 4700 block of Mondrian Court is owned by Robert and Donna Novickis. Their relationship to Nicholas Novickis — if any — is not known.
The couple bought the three-bedroom home in 2024 for $1.6 million, records show, and they are the first owners.
The Artistry neighborhood in Sarasota is a single-family home community east of Interstate 75 near Palmer Boulevard and Lorraine Road.
Prior to moving to Sarasota County, Robert and Donna Novickis lived in St. Charles, Illinois, property records show.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Nicholas Novickis is 34 years old and married. His occupation is unknown.
His address is listed as a downtown Sarasota luxury apartment building.
Records indicate Nicholas Novickis is also from Illinois and moved to Sarasota recently.
In April 2025, Novickis received a traffic ticket in Sarasota for unlawful speed in a school zone. He was driving 11 mph over the posted limit of 20 mph and paid a $206 fine for the infraction.
Novickis’ address on the ticket was listed as a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in West Chicago. Zillow lists the home as being worth $636,000.
