FHP: Motorcycle/ATV crash near Ormond Beach leaves 1 dead, 2 seriously injured

An Ormond Beach motorcyclist was killed and two people on an ATV were seriously injured Saturday in a head-on collision on State Road 40 in northern Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 11:50 p.m. just west of Pine Woods Road, the FHP report states.

According to FHP, the motorcyclist, 35, was riding east on S.R. 40. An all-terrain vehicle, driven by a 28-year-old Ormond Beach woman with a 22-year-old female passenger, was traveling west on the eastbound right grass shoulder of S.R. 40.

At some point, the ATV entered the path of the motorcycle resulting in a head-on collision, according to the FHP.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The two women were transported with serious injuries.

The FHP continues to investigate the crash.
