Melbourne woman dies after being hit by SUV at U.S. 1, Parkway Drive

A 65-year-old pedestrian died Thursday, May 21, after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Parkway Drive, the Melbourne Police Department reports.

Patricia A. Baker, 65, of Melbourne was hit by a 2016 Mitsubishi SUV driven by Ishanna Hall, 47, of Melbourne, police said in a release. Baker died after being transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Police officers and Melbourne Fire Department personnel responded to the accident at 11:40 a.m., finding a pedestrian “suffering from significant injuries related to the crash,” Lt. Brian Hart, watch commander, said in a release.

Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment for Baker at the scene before she was transported to Holmes.

The intersection remained closed for an extended period.

The investigation is active and ongoing, police said.
