Massachusetts woman dead after vehicle crash in Florida

A 65-year-old woman died following a crash in which a vehicle apparently left the road, struck the woman and trapped her, according to a Fort Pierce Police spokesperson on Feb. 10.

Police about 2:10 p.m. Feb. 7 went to a 911 call regarding the crash in the 1600 block of Laurel Leaf Lane, which is north of Virginia Avenue and west of South 13th Street, according to a text from police spokesperson Juliana Walker.

Investigators determined a 38-year-old woman drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee that left the road. The vehicle “crashed through hedges, fencing and into a pool area where it struck a 65-year-old female, more fencing and hedges and hit the side of a residence, trapping the victim under the vehicle,” Walker stated.

The 65-year-old woman, a Massachusetts resident, was dead at the scene.

Her name was not released as police are working to notify her family, Walker stated.

A preliminary review indicated the Jeep driver might have experienced a medical episode at the time of the crash.

She was taken to a local hospital.

Asked about the condition of the 38-year-old woman, Walker on Feb. 10 stated she spoke to an investigator who “said everything is still under investigation and he can’t speak to her condition or the outcome of the incident at this time.”

Those with information are asked to call police at 772-467-6800.
