It didn’t take long for former Texas A&M standout Braden Shewmake to make his mark in Houston. Just days after being traded to the Houston Astros, injuries across the infield forced a quick call‑up, and Shewmake has wasted no time proving he belongs.
The former Aggie made his Houston debut on April 25, going 1‑for‑2 with a solo home run, though it was overshadowed in a 12–4 loss to his former club, the New York Yankees. But on Tuesday night, Shewmake delivered the biggest swing of his young career and one he’ll remember forever.
Facing Shohei Ohtani, arguably the greatest player of this era, Shewmake stepped in with one strike in the bottom of the third. He got a pitch he liked and launched it over the left‑field wall, a solo shot that put Houston ahead 2–0. It held up as the game‑winning run in a 2–1 Astros victory.
For a player who’s battled through injuries, roster shuffles, and two brief big‑league stints, the moment was special.
“It’s something that you’ll be able to tell your kids about forever.”
