Fort Pierce Police are investigating an incident that left a man wounded by gunfire, the agency stated May 26.
Investigators about 9:45 p.m. May 24 reported hearing shots in the area of Avenue E and North 23rd Street, according to Juliana Walker, police spokesperson.
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. He was taken to a local hospital and was in what police described May 26 as “stable condition.”
Walker stated the man with the gunshot wound appears to have been the intended target.
“The victim walked past a group of people and someone said something as he walked by but the victim stated he didn’t stop or turn around to see who was speaking,” Walker stated.
The alleged gunman was seen leaving the area toward the 1100 block of Avenue E, Walker stated. He was described as having dreads, and wore a blue hoodie and black pants, according to police.
Investigators are working to determine a motive.
