Lowdermilk Park beach water is safe for swimming again

It’s safe to go swimming again at the beach at Lowdermilk Park, just in time for the weekend.

Officials with the state Department of Health in Collier County have lifted a “no water activity” advisory issued Wednesday, April 8, at Lowdermilk Park because water quality tests showed contamination with the Enterococcus bacteria.

New tests conducted the following day indicated the water quality had improved with an “acceptable level” of the bacteria

Enterococcus bacteria signifies fecal contamination that carries health risks.

It often originates from sewage spills, storm runoff, septic systems, and animal waste.
