Brody DeLamielleure knocked in three runs to help Florida State baseball beat South Florida 9-1 on Wednesday, April 29, at Dick Howser Stadium.
He finished the night 3-for-4, the lone player with a multi-hit game, and he blasted a 427-foot solo home run, his fifth of the season. His two-RBI single in the first inning kick-started the No. 14 Seminoles’ (30-14, 12-9 ACC) explosive start to the game.
FSU scored five in the first inning, with Eli Putnam scoring a run on a single and advancing to second base on a fielding error that also allowed DeLamielleure to reach third.
The extra bases helped both score after a fielding error on a Noah Sheffield grounder to shortstop allowed both runs to score. Both runners ran on contact, and after there was a high throw from shortstop to first base, Sheffield reached safely, and the two unearned runs scored to make it 5-0 FSU.
Cooper Whithed started for the Seminoles, and he tossed four innings where he allowed three hits and one earned run, while striking out four. The lone run of the game for the Bulls came off the bat of a former Seminole in Lance Trippel, who roped an RBI single back up the middle in the fourth inning.
FSU scored two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, with a Nathan Cmeyla RBI single and an infield groundout that scored a run from third base in the fifth, and DeLamielleure’s seventh-inning homer paired with an RBI groundout from Carter McCulley.
The Seminoles used five pitchers in relief of Whithed, and they combined for eight strikeouts, allowed two hits, and no runs. Cade O’Leary struck out one, Brodie Purcell struck out three, Gabe Nard struck out two, and Cole Stokes struck out one. Manny Lantigua, who finished the game on the mound, recorded all three outs with the ball in play.
