“Love Island USA” season seven is only 10 episodes underway, and things are heating up already.
In the first week alone, there was a recoupling ceremony, a couple of love triangles, one of the Floridians silently left, one islander was eliminated from the villa and much more.
Here’s a quick recap of what happened with the Florida contestants on “Love Island USA” this week, how the “Love Island” process works and who the couples are as of Friday, June 13.
Who are the current couples on ‘Love Island USA’ season 7?
On the following list, the names of the Floridian contestants are in bold.

What happened to Yulissa on ‘Love Island USA’?
During the third episode last week, narrator Ian Stirling announced that Florida’s Yulissa Escobar exited the villa with no extra fanfare. While “Love Island” producers have not shared the reasons behind her premature departure, USA TODAY reported that her exit came after clips of her using racial slurs resurfaced on social media.
Escobar has since addressed her resurfaced comments and apologized to those she offended.
“First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using. Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly,” Escobar wrote in the caption of a June 6 Instagram post.
“In those clips, I used a word I never should’ve used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It’s tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.”
She said she has “changed a lot since then.” She acknowledged, “Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it’s uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability.”
Who are the new bombshells on ‘Love Island USA’? 3 new members added to the cast
Following last Sunday’s recoupling, this week in the villa was spicy. The week started with arguments between Amaya and Ace following the recoupling. Amaya, who is now not pursuing Ace anymore, got into screaming matches with Ace and Chelley over how he chose to pursue Chelley even after choosing Amaya in the recoupling.
Ace clarified to Amaya that he didn’t want to pursue her anymore but would like to pursue Chelley, who is currently coupled up with Fort Lauderdale resident Austin.
If there is a recoupling this weekend, the couples might just swap partners, as Amaya and Austin also have a connection and shared a kiss last week before Sunday’s recoupling.
“It sucks to have been in a love triangle since I’ve been here,” Austin told Amaya. “And I’m getting exhausted with it…”
Another interesting conversation from Thursday night’s episode involved Nic from Jacksonville and Huda, who’s coupled up with Jeremiah.
She shared with Nic that she is a mother to a 5-year-old daughter – something she’d only told to Jeremiah and the other women.
“The least I could do is tell somebody he trusts, so he can talk to somebody about it,” Huda said to Nic, telling him that he can happy that he’s “an uncle now.”
As a reminder for those who don’t regularly watch the show or are new to the show’s dynamic, the contestants often tell each other they love each other and refer to each other as “family” very early on. Although they’ve only known each other for just over a week, Nic and Jeremiah consider themselves “best friends.”
Nic praised Huda for having the “courage” to come on a dating show with “what a lot of men would consider baggage” and calling her a “bada**.”
He revealed he was a sperm donor for a couple who couldn’t have kids, that he “loves kids” and “would have a kid tomorrow.”
This weekend will likely bring another recoupling, since three new bombshells entered the villa at the end of Thursday night’s episode. Now, two new men and one woman are vying for the islanders’ attention: Iris, Jalen and Pepe. And they all already have their eyes set on the people they’re interested in.
To heat things up even more, the bombshells appeared in the villa wearing very risque, strappy leather outfits during the steamy “leather and lace” party and planting kisses on the islanders they are interested in.

Each season’s winner is the couple that gets the most viewer votes as the favorite couple in the villa.
During the finale, the winning couple with the most votes get envelopes. One envelope has prize money and the other is empty. The person who receives the prize money can choose to keep it for themselves or split it with their partner.
How does the ‘Love Island’ process work?
On “Love Island,” a group of single men and women, called “Islanders,” “couple up” from week to week and live in a big villa together all summer. In the first episode of each season, each of the women in the villa chooses to couple up with a man, based only on a brief first impression.
Each islander sleeps in a bed with the person they’re coupled up with every night, in the same room as the other couples. There’s a massive bedroom with beds lining each wall and surveillance cameras in the bedroom, as well as throughout the villa.
Viewers watch the islanders spend their days lounging by the pool, talking amongst themselves and sometimes participating in challenges that can win them opportunities for alone time with the person they’re coupled up with.
There are “recoupling” ceremonies, in which the men and women take turns choosing to either stay with the person they are coupled up with or choose someone else. Since the initial coupling is up to the women, the men get the upper hand in the first recoupling ceremony. Any islanders who are single after the recoupling leave the villa.
Viewers also get a chance to vote on their favorite and least favorite islanders and couples from week to week, giving them the power to have a say in who’s eliminated from the villa.
