What does Lucas Mahlstedt bring to the Los Angeles Angels?
Mahlstedt (6-foot-3, 175 pounds) dominated during his final two years at Spruce Creek.
In 12 appearances as a junior, he did not allow an earned run. He followed that with a 0.40 ERA in 35⅓ innings as a senior.
After an up-and-down freshman campaign at Wofford in 2022, when Mahlstedt registered an 8.33 ERA, he rebounded with a big-time sophomore season. His numbers: a 2.69 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 83⅔ frames.
Then, he moved to Clemson. D1Baseball ranked him the No. 83 transfer in the nation during the preseason.
He had a 4.73 ERA in 2024 before enjoying one of the best seasons in Tigers history in 2025.
Mahlstedt trotted out of the bullpen 27 times and tossed 48 innings. He maintained a 3.00 ERA with 61 strikeouts and 15 saves, which placed him third in the nation and tied the school record.
In two seasons at Clemson, he compiled 100 strikeouts against only 23 walks.
Last week, Mahlstedt was named ACC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year. He graduated from Clemson with a degree in physics in May.
