St. Augustine’s famous Pillars Castle, known by locals as the “pink castle,” is on sale for a cool $1,695,000.
Bryce Ocepek with Coldwell Banker is the listing agent for the three-story, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath, 4,495-square-foot single family home at 16 May St., a short distance from the Vilano Bridge and within walking distance from historic downtown.
According to Ocepek, the owners purchased the property in 2021 as a part-time Airbnb and vacation home and have maintained its modern upkeep while preserving its antique charm.
“Everything is in great shape,” he told the St. Augustine Record. “The modern amenities are up to date and the owners preserved its historical charm. Everything is exactly in its place, clean and ready for its new owners. It’s really beautiful.”
Ocepek said the owners selected classic Pillars Castle decor to accentuate the home’s original architectural design while caring for the property during their short tenure.
The bedrooms are located on the second and third floors and include a mother-in-law suite, complete with a kitchenette and a private entrance.
“The castle includes a grand hall, a formal dining room, a chef’s kitchen, a custom bar, a pool table and a private, outdoor patio,” Ocepek said. “The original stained-glass windows, coffered ceilings and stone fireplaces speak to the home’s historic character, and updated guest suites with en-suite baths, spa showers and premium finishes offer both comfort and sophistication.”
The landscaped courtyard includes a fountain and gated rear-entry with enough space to accommodate off-street parking, plus a detached two-car garage, a covered carport and a driveway that exits through the back of the property.
Built in 1922, the Pink Castle was designed by American sculptor C. Adrian Pillars, who lived in St. Augustine between 1919 and 1932. Pillars used the castle as a studio, creating notable sculptures, including a bronze statue of a youth rising above the globe entitled “Spiritualized Life, The Winged Victory” that stands in Jacksonville’s Memorial Park commemorating those who lost their lives during World War I.
Minutes away from many of St. Augustine’s prime draws, the Pink Castle can serve as a vacation rental or a luxury home.
