Local WR attends spring practice, compares Florida State to ACC rival

Florida State is in the midst of spring practice. Earlier this week, they had 2027 four-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons at one of them, making it his second visit to the program already this year.

FSU continued to show Simmons what he wanted to see as he told Zach Blostein of Noles247.

“It was great. Just another great day coming up to FSU to get out and see how their spring practice went,” Simmons said.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder attends Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee. So, his commute to campus was a short one. Once he got there, head coach Mike and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr., who is also the new offensive coordinator, gave Simmons a clear message when they met with him.

“I’m the top guy. I’m the guy they want. I’m from the city. I’m the guy they want to come fit their program,” said Simmons.

Florida State has heavy competition for Simmons, and it’s one of their top rivals in the ACC. That program is Clemson, which Simmons visited last weekend. He gave a comparison of where things are with both schools.

“Clemson is still number one and I see FSU still at the top of the list,” Simmons said. “Just checking out both of them, I would say Dabo Swinney — great guy. He’s about his business, about his program and how his program works differently. Coach Mike Norvell, he just brings energy everyday. You’re just going to get used to him.”

Simmons is coming off a productive junior campaign in 2025. He amassed 59 catches and racked up 932 yards while scoring 14 touchdowns, plus 25 tackles, six pass breakups, and three interceptions on defense. Also, Simmons was named the “Alpha Dog” at the Under Armour Camp in Orlando in February.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Simmons as the No. 157 overall player and the No. 21 wide receiver in the nation. He’s also the No. 16 prospect in the state of Florida.

On May 29, Simmons will take an official visit to Clemson, and he will follow that up with an official visit to Florida State on June 5. This battle will continue to be intense over the next several months.
