Class 1A athletes kick off 4 days of FHSAA track and field championships

Four days of FHSAA track and field state championships kicked off with Class 1A on May 6.

Holy Trinity claimed the boys title while Benjamin captured the girls crown. Though no Volusia-Flagler teams cracked the standings, four local individuals and two relay lineups competed at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.

Trinity Christian’s Eduardo Cruz was the lone local boy participant. He finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.03.

On the girls leaderboards, Father Lopez’s Lauren Lancing secured the top finish — ninth in the 100-meter dash (12.65 seconds). She also took a DQ in the 100-meter hurdles.

Teammate Mia Bruno-Lodwig slotted 13th in the shot put. Her top throw traveled 9.7 meters. And the Green Wave’s Caroline Curtis placed 16th in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:26.18.

Father Lopez’s 4×100-meter relay team finished 10th with a time of 50.37 seconds. Its 4×400 lineup was 18th (4:17.45).

The Class 2A, 3A and 4A championships will follow May 7-9.
