South Daytona police officer ID'd after being shot on I-95

A South Daytona police officer was shot following a high-speed chase and wreck on Interstate 95 that started on Country Lane when Port Orange Police responded to reports of a shooting, authorities said on March 15.

The wounded officer has been identified as Jake Fessenden, and is reported to be in stable condition at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, according to authorities and news reports.

The suspect was also shot, Port Orange Police stated in a Facebook post. The condition of the suspect is unknown. News reports identified him as Todd Anthony Martin.

Port Orange Police respond to reports of earlier shooting, chase follows on I-95

Port Orange Police responded to a shooting call earlier off of Country Lane, and were able to locate the suspect, who fled in a vehicle, according to the Facebook post.

A pursuit followed, with South Daytona Police Department officers joining the chase.

While northbound on Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach, the suspect’s vehicle crashed, and he opened fire on the officers, striking the unidentified South Daytona police officer, authorities said. The suspect was also shot.

No one was injured in the initial shooting call, according to Port Orange Police.

Authorities caution that the area around Beville Road, Interstate 4 and I-95 remain congested due to the investigation.
