Liv McGill continued to rack up the postseason accolades this week.
McGill was named an All-American honorable mention by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and AP. She becomes the third Florida women’s basketball player to receive such recognition from the USBWA – joining DeLisha Milton (1997, Second Team) and Murriel Page (1998, First Team).
The sophomore is the eighth to gain the honor from the AP, and the first since Sha Brooks in 2009 (Honorable Mention).
The Minneapolis native put the basketball world on notice in the first two games of the season when she scored 64 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, dished out 19 assists and picked up 12 steals. This made her the first NBA, WNBA or Division I men’s or women’s player this century to have 60/15/15/10 in those categories over a 2-game span since Dwyane Wade in 2009, according to OptaStats.
She finished the season averaging 22.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.6 steals. Along with Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo, she’s the only player to average 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.
McGill was named First Team All-SEC two weeks ago. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to lead the Gators to more success. UF’s season ended at 18-15 with an SEC Second Round loss to Oklahoma.
Coach Kelly Rae Finley was fired last Monday, and Athletic Director Scott Stricklin is on the hunt to hire the program’s 12th head coach.
