ENGLEWOOD –The Light Up Lemon Bay Fireworks Show will continue as scheduled July 4, though the sponsoring Lemon Bay Sunrise Rotary Club is still seeking donations to help offset the annual show’s cost.
The traditional launch site near Blind Pass Beach is unavailable because of hurricane related damage to Manasota Key Road. In response, Scott Libertore has offered the club use of the former Buchan’s Landing site near the end of Dearborn Street as a substitute staging ground.
That site will eventually be transformed into the mixed-use Buchan’s Bayside development, featuring both homes and a destination restaurant, accessible by land or by sea.
Historically, the Sunrise Rotary has shouldered the full cost of Light Up Lemon Bay, which draws residents and visitors alike, but rising expenses and changing logistics have the club seeking donations from the community.
“After everything this community has been through, especially enduring three hurricanes in a short span, this year’s fireworks mean more than ever,” Doug Izzo, a Sunrise Rotary member and executive director of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, said in prepared statement. “It’s not just about the show – it’s about resilience, hope, and togetherness.”
Donation “rockets” have been placed at local businesses and at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, where individuals can make contributions.
The Rotary Club is also seeking corporate sponsors to help fund the event.
For more information about the event or to find out how you can be involved, contact Izzo at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce at 941-474-5511.
