Brevard high school softball district tournaments are set to begin

High school softball’s regular season ended Wednesday, April 22, and the FHSAA released its district tournament brackets on Thursday.

Melbourne Central Catholic, Astronaut, Eau Gallie and Melbourne all garnered No. 1 seeds in their respective classes and districts.

Melbourne, led by Layna Ayala and Addison Balavender, finished the regular season with Brevard’s best record at 23-1. They are the top seed in District 7-6A.

Ayala is batting .584 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI. Balavender is 14-1 with a 1.00 ERA, striking out 153 to just 28 walks.

Eau Gallie, the No. 1 seed in District 8-4A, was 19-3 this season. They’re led by Evie Martin and Jordan Stout, among a host of talented Commodores.

Martin batted .429 with a team-high 9 home runs and 35 RBI. Stout was 11-1 with a 1.02 ERA and 67 strikeouts.

Melbourne Central Catholic was 12-7 in District 8-2A behind dual threat Lilly Rollinger. Rollinger had team highs with a .379 batting average, 15 runs, 22 hits and 16 RBI. On the mound, she was 8-3 with a team-best 2.40 ERA and 73 strikeouts to just 9 walks.

Astronaut was 12-7 in District 8-3A. Arielys Rosado had a team-high batting average of .345 with three home runs. Halliey Moxley was 4-0 with a 0.74 ERA with 23 strikeouts.
