Lehigh Acres teen motorcyclist crashes at high speed, troopers say

A Lehigh Acres teen died May 20 when the speeding motor cycle he was driving was hit in a Fort Myers intersection, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to troopers, the teen was heading south on Treeline Avenue at a high rate of speed, nearing Jetport Loop about 2 p.m. A 68-year-old Fort Myers woman driving a 2005 Honda heading north on Treeline attempted to turn left onto Jetport Loop, with the vehicles crashing.

The teen died at the scene, while the woman sustained non-capacitating injuries and was taken to a hospital, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reports this is at least the third motorcycle fatality in Lee County this year with 102 crashes involving motorcycles. There have been at least 18 road deaths in the county.
