MIAMI GARDENS — France star Kylian Mbappé is on the scoresheet in South Florida’s final World Cup match.
Mbappé scored a goal against England in the 48th minute of the World Cup third-place match on Saturday, July 18 at Hard Rock Stadium. The strike cut the English lead to 4-1 in the first minutes after halftime.
It was Mbappé’s ninth goal of the World Cup, giving him a one-goal lead over Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.
France has made wholesale changes at halftime and they paid off. Mbappé was played in on goal unmarked and he slotted home a left-footed shot with his typically brilliant first touch.
Who scored for England in World Cup third-place match?
England built a 4-0 halftime lead thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa.
Rice, who assisted Konsa’s goal on a corner kick in the 18th minute for England’s second goal, opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal from outside the box.
Saka scoredin the 37th minute and the first minute of first-half stoppage time to give England its four-goal advantage.
