A brush fire broke out July 18 in Saint Sebastian River Preserve State Park and may have been caused by lightning, Indian River County Fire Rescue officials said.
Firefighters were called at 1:42 p.m. to the fire just east of Interstate 95 near mile marker 158, Assistant Fire Chief Bill Herrington said. Mile marker 158 is near the C-54 canal.
Firefighters have now contained the fire, Herrington said. It burned within an approximately 11-acre area of the park, he said. Residents and visitors may continue to see smoke in the area, Herrington said.
State park firefighters and firefighters with the Florida Forest Service joined Indian River County crews to put out the blaze.
