Kids escape the summer heat during Camp Palm Beach waterslide day

Kids cheered with excitement as they slid down the tall, inflatable water slides set up on the field of the Mandel Recreation Center during the town’s summer camp programming.

On one of four waterslide days organized during Camp Palm Beach, the program’s 80 campers also had the chance to run through an inflatable water course, munch on shaved ice and take part in a color war with non-toxic color powder.

The campers jubilantly made their way to the various inflatable slides set up across the field just north of Royal Palm Way during the July 17 event.

“I like that there are a lot of slides to pick from,” camper Rory Dean, 10, said during a break.

The camp, which runs through July 31, is a favorite among children on the island for the various events, field trips and activities organized during its running.

“I love this camp,” said 13-year-old SebastienBergés-Oatley. “You do something different every day, and you get to spend time with your friends.”

Those events include field trips to a local trampoline park, Palm Beach Skate Zoning skating rink and the camp’s annual talent show, said Recreation Specialist Megan Muscat, the organizer of Camp Palm Beach.

But as much excitement as those events garner, Muscat says the waterslide day remains a much-anticipated event for many returning campers.

A waterslide day is planned for the camp’s last day, which also will see counselors grill hotdogs, burgers and other barbeque foods for the campers.
