I lead a local veterans' group. We're fed up with today's GOP | Letter

What happened to Republican Party?

We do not understand the Republican Party in Washington and Tallahassee these days.

Its members look the other way as President Donald Trump and his family make billions of dollars from people asking for presidential favors.

It has solidified him as the greediest, most corrupt president in American history.

They also refuse to say a word about Trump’s deteriorating mental health, his incoherent speeches and his increased tendency to fall asleep during meetings.

And Republican members of Congress didn’t criticize Trump for ignoring them to start an illegal war.

It is a war that has cost us billions of dollars and taken American lives, and it has accomplished nothing other than driving up gas prices.

Republicans now tolerate white racists – as well as Christian fundamentalists who are convinced that their religion is the only true one in the world.

These Republicans acquiesced when Trump appointed incompetent and inexperienced people to key positions in our government.

And they looked the other way as Elon Musk destroyed essential government programs designed to help “We the People.”

Musk slashed medical benefits, veterans health services and retirement programs that American families have depended on for decades.

To add insult to injury, our local Republican “representatives” even refuse to appear at forums sponsored by our group of veterans – the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country and our democracy!

The bottom line is this: Republicans in Washington – and here in Florida – have put Trump ahead of the citizens who elected them.
