Gunshots ring out during 911 call from McDonald's drive-thru

The call to Flagler County 911 began calmly at first. The woman on the other line was reporting a road rage incident in Palm Coast. She said a driver in a McDonald’s parking lot had cut her off, and then got out of his car and threatened her.

With the 911 dispatcher still on the phone, the woman appeared to talk to someone else outside the McDonald’s. That’s when three gunshots blasted in the background.

“Oh, he just shot somebody! He just shot somebody!” the woman said.

“He just shot somebody?’ the dispatcher asked.

“He just shot somebody! He just shot somebody!” the upset caller repeated.

No arrests yet in Palm Coast shooting outside McDonald’s

No arrests have been announced in the shooting which took place shortly after 10 p.m. on May 26 at the McDonald’s on Palm Coast and Belle Terre parkways.

The situation began with a road rage incident but the victim was not involved; he later intervened, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly previously told The News-Journal.

The victim was a 61-year-old man from Daytona North who suffered a facial injury and multiple gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office. He was reported last week to be in stable condition.

The shooter was a 50-year-old Palm Coast man, who was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, the sheriff’s office stated.

Before shooting, 911 caller thought incident was over

The woman called 911, saying there was a traffic incident and now the other driver wouldn’t move up in the drive-thru, blocking her. Then she said the man had just moved up.

“I guess everything is OK. The McDonald’s workers are out here now, so everything is OK now,” the caller said. “But I just want to let you know that somebody in line wouldn’t move up and he was mad because he ran the stop sign, cut me off and then started yelling at me, getting out of the car and threatening me.”

The dispatcher asked about the vehicle the other driver was in.

The woman said it was a white Kia Soul.

The dispatcher asked if the Kia’s driver was still there as the caller appears to talk to someone else.

That’s when three gunshots ring out with a pause between the second and third.

“He just shot somebody!” the caller repeats several times and then asked where her boyfriend was.

Woman at McDonald’s: ‘He just shot this old man’

The dispatcher tries to calm the caller and asks for a description of the shooter.

“He’s a white old man. I don’t know. I’m in the McDonald’s right now. He just shot this old man that got out of the drive-thru. He just shot him like three times,” the woman responds. “He just actually shot him.”

The woman says the victim was “like a customer” in a vehicle in the drive-thru.”

The woman apparently ran into the McDonald’s and her boyfriend joined her.

911 received more calls from people who heard the gunshots.

Palm Coast McDonald’s locked down after shooting in drive-thru

Flagler County 911 also received a call from a McDonald’s employee.

“A shooting in the drive-thru” the caller said.

The dispatcher asked about the vehicle involved.

“I don’t know anything about it. I just know there was like three or four gunshots, and a lady came running into my kitchen from the back door, saying they just got shot at, and she needed help.

“She’s not bleeding or nothing, but I don’t know if anybody got hit outside or anything. I locked all the doors and called you.”

“OK, alright,” said the dispatcher. “Store on lockdown, OK?”

“Yep,” the caller said.

The caller looked out and said he believed he saw a sheriff’s office vehicle outside.

The dispatcher said: “Yeah, we show we got several calls.”

Palm Coast shooting 911 call: ‘Yeah, someone’s down, bro’

Another 911 caller said: “I’m pretty sure there’s been some shots fired at the McDonald’s drive-thru.”

“Yeah, someone’s down bro,” someone else says in the background.

“Somebody’s down,” the caller said.

The other man said a man was on the ground near a white Kia. He later said that the man was moving around.

“Yes, he is shot. He is down,” one of the men says.

The first one said he was going to see what happened and adds that he was in the Marines.

A few seconds later someone can be heard screaming in the background: “Why did you do that?”
