PORT ST. LUCIE – A 6-year-old girl died after what Port St. Lucie Police said was an incident involving an electric go-kart at Urban Air adventure park, a police spokesperson said Dec. 8.
Port St. Lucie Police just before 9 p.m. Dec. 6 were sent to the business in the 9000 block of South U.S. 1 for a medical incident, said Officer Brittany Holly, police spokesperson.
Holly said the girl, who was accompanied by an adult, was in an electric go-kart that was struck by another go-kart.
She was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. She died Dec. 7.
The family is from the Fort Pierce area, though police did not immediately release the name of the 6-year-old girl.
Holly said there is nothing at this time indicating the incident is anything other than an accident.
A voice message left at Urban Air’s Port St. Lucie location the morning of Dec. 8 was not immediately returned. The regular hours of operation for the business are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, with additional hours on Saturdays and Sundays, according to the business website.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police also reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
No other information was immediately available.
