FSU's Marin Heller issues statement after injury

Florida State second baseman Marin Heller issued a statement on Wednesday addressing the injury she suffered against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

I’m beyond grateful for all the love and support after this past weekend’s game vs. Georgia Tech. I want to give a huge shoutout to all the medical staff for having my back right away after the collision, and a special thank you to our FSU medical staff for taking such good care of me once I got back to Tallahassee. I already underwent surgery and I am on the road to recovery hoping to get back with my team soon. This game tests you, and I know I’m built for it. I am ready to compete and join my squad as soon as possible to finish what we started. I appreciate everyone riding with me through it. Go Noles! Go Team 43!

The freshman suffered the injury on the final play of the game when she went to field a grounder, putting her in the basepath between first and second, with the runner on first colliding with her. She was down on the ground for several minutes before she walked off.

She has not played in the two games since then, the only games she has missed all season. While Heller did not mention a return timeline in her statement, head coach Lonni Alameda spoke with the media on Wednesday and said that Heller is in “kind of a day-to-day situation,” and it will depend on how she recovers from her surgery.

Heller has had an excellent freshman season for FSU and started the first 48 games of the season. She is hitting .353 and has a .451 on-base percentage with 15 doubles, four triples, two home runs, and 25 RBI. She has drawn 23 walks and struckout 16 times. She has also stolen 13 bases on 15 attempts and made just four errors in 173 chances, giving her a .977 fielding percentage.
