FSU wide receiver named one of college football’s top newcomers

Florida State brought in six wide receivers in its 2026 recruiting class. The second-highest ranked of the bunch was four-star Devin Carter out of Douglasville, Georgia.

He’s coming off back-to-back productive years on the high school level. Carter racked up 41 receptions for 670 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, and he registered 26 receptions for 431 yards and another five scores as a senior.

Once the Seminoles take the field in 2026, Carter is a player that head coach Mike Norvell feels can make an early impact as a freshman, along with four-star wide receiver commit Jasen Lopez. ESPN’s Billy Tucker is also high on Carter. When he released his top 100 newcomers for the upcoming season. Carter ranked No. 97 on the list.

Carter, the son of former FSU running back Dexter Carter, was a top-300 prospect who brings speed to stretch the field vertically, pairing well with Micahi Danzy. Carter is a smooth receiver who tracks the ball well and shows reliable, soft hands. After the catch, he offers quickness and stop-start ability to make defenders miss in space. His skill set gives him versatility as a developing target capable of impacting both vertical and intermediate routes.

Carter is a versatile receiver who can play in the slot and on the outside. He’s a technically sound pass catcher with excellent acceleration and elite route-running skills, which makes it understandable why Norvell, and surely offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr., feel Carter will have a role this upcoming season.

All-ACC performer Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy will undoubtedly lead the way at receiver for FSU. If they can get some good production from Carter as well as the aforementioned Lopez, Florida State’s receiver group will be a major strength in 2026.
