Florida State baseball has given its season some life as it staved off an early elimination in the Tallahassee Regional.
The No. 10-seeded Seminoles bested Coastal Carolina in a marathon game that took nearly 22 hours to complete after a pair of weather delays impacted the playing surface at Dick Howser Stadium.
FSU won 2-1 thanks to an RBI single from Nathan Cmeyla and a solo blast from Cal Fisher, alongside elite pitching from Wes Mendes and Trey Beard. The Seminoles’ top two starters combined for 17 strikeouts to set up an elimination game against Northern Illinois.
St. John’s bludgeoned the Huskies, 21-8, in the winners’ bracket game to advance to the Tallahassee Regional final on Monday, awaiting the winner of the losers’ bracket game. The Red Storm beat the Seminoles in the Tallahassee Regional opener, 6-5.
The winner between FSU and Northern Illinois will play on Monday against the Red Storm, which is making the program’s first regional final appearance since 2015. St. John’s has scored 27 runs in two games in Tallahassee, a red-hot offense that has given teams at Howser fits.
First pitch is set for approximately 7:10 p.m., around an hour after the conclusion of Northern Illinois’s loss to St. John’s. Here’s how to watch the second elimination game in Tallahassee.
