FSU baseball names Bryson Moore starter for Tallahassee Regional opener

Florida State baseball will turn to righty Bryson Moore to start game one of the Tallahassee Regional against St. John’s on Friday, May 29, head coach Link Jarrett announced in a press conference on Thursday.

Moore has occupied the Sunday starter role for the No. 10-seeded Seminoles, and he holds a 3.88 ERA and a 6-2 record this season. He had an up-and-down start to the season, but has pitched at a high level for FSU in his last two starts, allowing three runs in 13.2 innings pitched against both Clemson and Miami.

The decision to go with Moore gives Jarrett and the Seminoles flexibility on the mound.

Should the program win against St. John’s, either lefty Wes Mendes, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, who holds a 2.93 ERA and 9-3 record, or lefty Trey Beard (4.78 ERA, 6-1) can pitch in the winners’ bracket game, and the other could be saved for a potential regional final.

St John’s won both the Big East regular season and the Big East Tournament. The program started the season 1-10, but had a remarkable turnaround to finish the year 33-24 and make a 39th regional appearance.

The team is led by pitcher Liam O’Leary, who has a 2.97 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 68 strikeouts and 24 walks issued in 100 innings pitched this season. He is fresh off a 137-pitch appearance in the Big East Tournament final, where he struck out six hitters in eight innings.

It’s the third regional for the Seminoles under Jarrett, all at home. FSU made it to the College World Series in 2024 and advanced to the super regional rounds in 2025. The Seminoles will look to return to Omaha for the second time under Jarrett, and that journey starts with the Tallahassee Regional.

FSU last played in the ACC Tournament, losing in stunning fashion to Pitt. Down to his final strike with two outs in the top of the ninth, Pitt’s Kai Wagner hit a three-run home run to stun FSUand knock the Seminoles out of the ACC Tournament quarterfinals with an 8-6 loss.
