Former FSU commit flips to Big Ten program

Former Florida State Seminoles commit Mekhi Williams has found his new home, committing to the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday. He announced the news live on the CBS Sports college football YouTube channel.

Williams was FSU’s top-rated commit and was committed to them from March 26, 2025, to May 31, 2026. He kept visiting FSU during that time, but never shut down his recruitment and continued to visit several other programs. The Badgers were eventually able to pull off the flip, hosting him on an official visit last weekend.

He decommitted from FSU during the visit, announcing that he was now considering the Badgers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and LSU Tigers. While he was scheduled to officially visit the other two programs, he ended up committing to Wisconsin before those visits could take place.

Williams is ranked as the No. 197 overall player and No. 17 safety in the 247Sports composite. The Ruskin native is also the No. 21 player from Florida.

His departure was another blow to FSU’s 2027 recruiting class, which now consists of just seven members. Four-star edge Anthony Cavallaro is now their highest-ranked commit, at No. 348 overall. The Seminoles do have two other defensive backs committed in three-star cornerback Dayon Cooper and three-star safety Jemari Foreman.
