MARTIN COUNTY – The death of a 31-year-old man found Jan. 17 in a grass lot in the Jensen Beach area does not appear to be criminal in nature, a Martin County sheriff’s spokesperson said.
Sheriff’s officials around 11:30 a.m. went to the empty lot in the area of Northeast Church Street and Northeast Indian River Drive regarding a “suspicious person,” a report states.
A caller said a man was “slumped over” with a dog.
Investigators found no pulse on the man, and began performing CPR. They also administered a nasal spray designed to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Rescue officials pronounced the man dead at 11:37 a.m., the report states.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Christine Christofek said officials are waiting on results of an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. The man is a Jensen Beach resident.
Christofek said the death does not appear to be criminal in nature.
According to the report, the dog, which is alive, was identified as belonging to the father of the 31-year-old man.
