Florida football dropped from No. 15 to out of the US LBM coaches poll following an 18-16 loss to USF on Sept. 6 at The Swamp.
The Florida Gators (1-1) have yet to start 2-0 in four seasons under head coach Billy Napier, who dropped to 20-20 overall and 14-7 in The Swamp following the upset loss to the Bulls. UF entered the game as 17.5-point favorites, per BetMGM, and began the season ranked in the preseason USLBM Top 25 for the first time since 2021.
USF (2-0) jumped into the coaches poll at No. 23 following the win over the Gators. Florida received 68 votes.
“The vibe in the locker room is we were definitely heartbroken, sad, mad,” Florida quarterback DJ Lagway said. “We could have played a lot better. We left a lot of points on the board. We did a lot of things that we should have cleaned up.”
Florida next plays on Sept. 13 at No. 4 LSU, which beat Louisiana Tech 23-7 on Sept. 6. It’s the first of two straight ranked opponents UF will face as the Gators will play at No. 6 Miami on Sept. 20.
