A Florida Highway Patrol car was hit during a chain-reaction crash on I-10 in Gadsden County. Three other vehicles were involved, troopers said.
At around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, a trooper was conducting a crash investigation on I-10 westbound at the 167 mile marker in an unincorporated part of the county.
Florida Department of Transportation Road Rangers and workers with Webber Incident Response, a infrastructure management company, were on scene working to close the outside westbound lane and had a lane taper in place with traffic cones and emergency lights on.
A black Dodge Ram, a white Subaru and a white Ford were all traveling westbound at the 167 mile marker. The trooper car was stationary, parked along the emergency shoulder.
The Subaru changed lanes and slowed while merging due to the lane taper. The Dodge was following the Subaru, leading to the front of the car to collide with the other and behind them came the Ford.
Two passengers from the Subaru, a 51-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and were taken by EMS to Gadsden E.R. for medical evaluation and treatment. No other injuries were reported; FHP does not identify traffic wreck victims in press releases.
