A familiar name to Tallahassee basketball is joining Charlie Ward’s inaugural Florida A&M men’s basketball staff.
Maclay boys basketball head coach Eugene Granger has been hired as an assistant coach, joining Ward’s staff on The Highest of Seven Hills.
Granger has led the Marauders boys’ basketball program since the 2016-2017 season. He was the 2023 All-Big Bend Coach of the Year.
A Tallahassee native, Granger also coached basketball at Florida High, West Gadsden High School, and FAMU Developmental Research School.
Granger, formerly at Maclay, and Ward, former Florida High coach, were once fierce competitors, especially during the 2022-2023 season. The Marauders and Seminoles enjoyed a trilogy of contests that year during the regular season, the district title game, and the state playoffs.
Granger played basketball locally at Tallahassee Community College, now Tallahassee State, before transferring to perform on the NCAA Division I level at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina.
Granger joins FAMU’s new-look staff, including director of basketball operations Sebastian Aguilar and assistant coaches Jarrod Lazarus and Rob Lewis.
FAMU basketball also has a fair amount of transfers, with a few returning players entering the 2025-2026 season.
