The event: The 28th annual Puerto Rican Day parade in Palm Bay, hosted by United Third Bridge. A crowd-pleasing event, the parade and related festival never fail to bring miles of smiles as culture, music and community meld in a festive celebration.

The result: Joy and pride on full, happy display in this Photo of the Week by FLORIDA TODAY photographer Tim Shortt.

In this vivid, color-splashed shot, United Third Bridge’s “Godmother of the Year” Ada Garcia rides in a spot of honor in a red convertible. Alongside the car, a flag-waving parade participant flashes a pretty-as-a-picture grin.

“I love the vibrant color and joy  of this moment,” said Shortt, who has taken photographs at almost every one of the UTB  parades since their inception.

“The parade was filled with positive energy.”

So is this photo: How can it miss, with such happiness, honor and heritage leading the way?
