A modest proposal for downtown Sarasota
Sarasota is fast becoming a very crowded, stressful and difficult city to live in.
None of us should be surprised: a couple of generations of developers, with our local politicians’ approval, have jammed way too many massive buildings and apartments into our downtown area.
And even more are on the drawing boards.
The inevitable result is no surprise.
We now have more vehicles, more traffic jams, more noise and more pollution as our formerly gracious city turns into just another copy of the traffic nightmare that is Miami.
So here’s a modest proposal:
Before approving any new building downtown, let’s require that the developer and his immediate family must become full-time residents of his monstrous building for a minimum of five years after it is completed.
That way the developer and his family can experience – along with the rest of us – all the noise, traffic and pollution that his gigantic building has helped create.
Maybe it will make the developer think twice before he decides to build his latest monstrosity.
After all, fair is fair.
Or as the Bible says in Galatians 6:7: ” . . . for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
Just a thought.
