District Soccer semis: Vero boys shutout Centennial, Pine girls advance

Here’s a roundup of district semifinals girls and boys soccer games involving Treasure Coast teams from Friday, Jan. 23.

District tournaments will resume with championship matches next week.

Boys Soccer

District 8-7A Semifinals

No. 3 Vero Beach (10-10-5) 1, No. 2 St. Lucie West Centennial (9-3-2) 0: Callum Buck knocked in the lone goal of the night as Vero Beach walked out of South County Regional Stadium with a huge win after dismissing the Eagles.  

Vero entered districts ranked ninth in Region 2-7A, two spots behind Centennial for the region’s final at-large bid. The gap between the two teams is currently 1.691 rating points. 

Vero Beach can earn an automatic bid into the postseason as the team plays 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jupiter.

No. 1 Jupiter (12-2-2) 2, No. 4 Treasure Coast (8-4-1) 0: The Titans nearly took down the district’s top seed, but ultimately were defeated by the Warriors on the road. Stats were unavailable. Treasure Coast saw its season come to a close as the team entered district ranked 11th in Region 2-7A. 

District 13-5A Quarterfinals

No. 1 South Fork (21-0-2) 4, No. 5 Fort Pierce Westwood (6-8-1) 1: German Perez knocked in a pair of goals while Andres Flores dished out three assists to help the undefeated Bulldogs to get past the Panthers. 

Matthew Riedesel and Keegan Marrone each added a goal for South Fork, who will play host to Jensen Beach in the district title match. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at JoeBud Staggs Stadium.  

No. 2 Jensen Beach (12-5-1) 3, No. 3 Okeechobee (16-4-3) 0: The Falcons will have a chance to defend their district title thanks to a shutout home win over the Brahmans. Jose Aguilar, Max Tovar and Ian Tovar each scored a goal for Jensen Beach. 

District 7-2A Semifinals

No. 1 Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy (11-1-1) 7, No. 5 Somerset College Prep (5-5-2) 0: Giving up five goals in the first half, the Spartans season came to an end following a road loss to the top-seeded Tigers in Melbourne. Somerset College Prep entered districts ranked 17th in Region 2-2A.

Girls Soccer

District 8-1A Semifinals

No. 1 Pine (7-3-2) 6, No. 4 Jupiter Christian (2-9-1) 0: A four-goal first half was more than enough to propel the defending-champion Knights past the Eagles. Stats were unavailable. 

Pine looks to repeat when it plays St. Edward’s at 3 p.m. Wednesday from Hobe Sound.

No. 3 St. Edward’s (8-3-4) 2, No. 2 Master’s Academy (13-6-1) 0: After going winless in district play during the regular season, the Pirates picked a perfect time to collect its first against a district opponent, defeating the Patriots on the road. St. Edward’s trailed at halftime, but scored each of its goals in the second half.
