Indian River County sheriff’s detectives were alerted by a caller to a dead body in some shrubbery along U.S. 1 in Sebastian late afternoon July 8, sheriff’s officials said in a news release issued that evening.
The caller reported finding the body, which was heavily decomposed, around 4:10 p.m. along the shoreline on the east side near 14510 U.S. 1, across the street from where the body of James Thompson was found July 6, sheriff’s officials said.
Thompson, 44, of Palm Bay, had been reported missing by his mother. He was found by a person fishing from the shoreline of the Indian River Lagoon shortly after 2 p.m. July 6 near the shoreline, just south of the St. Sebastian River Bridge on U.S. 1, near the Brevard County line, sheriff’s Lt. Detectives and Crime Scene Unit personnel were processing the area the evening of July 8 and working to identify the recently discovered deceased person.
Investigators also are working to determine whether the two deaths are related or separate, unconnected incidents occurring in the same general area.
