Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy as one of seven new members sitting on Florida’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC), his office announced this week.
Sgt. Chase Horne will sit on the CJSTC for a term of four years, according to the CJSTC.
“We are proud of Chase,” Sheriff Chip Simmons told the News Journal. “He will represent law enforcement professionals and maintain the highest levels of integrity.”
Horne serves as a member of the Florida Deputy Sheriff’s Association and is the president of the Florida Police Benevolent Association’s Northwest Florida chapter. He is also a recipient of the 2023 Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Officer of the Year Award.
The mission of the CJSTC, according to its website, is to “ensure that all citizens are served by criminal justice officers who are ethical, qualified, and well-trained.” The commission’s responsibilities include establishing minimum standards for employment and training, curriculum requirements for training and the review and administration of sanctions.
The commission is required to have five law enforcement officers who are not a sheriff or chief of a department but currently hold the rank of sergeant or greater.
