Costco Wholesale, the popular membership warehouse retailer famous for bulk goods and low prices, announced that dozens of new locations are on the way amid strong sales and membership growth during its quarterly earnings call.
“We currently expect to have 28 net new openings in fiscal year 2026 and are targeting 30+ new openings per year in the coming years,” Costco CEO Ron Vachris said in the Thursday, March 5, call.
Costco has already announced seven new stores opening in the next few months.
Are any new Costco stores coming to Florida? Not right away, but yes.
New Costco locations in Florida
Costco has been expanding its presence in Florida, opening a new location in Stuart last April and another in The Villages in August. Plans for a St. Lucie store are moving forward, with the city ready to sell Costco Wholesale 22 acres for the project.
A new Costco set to be built in Sanford in the former Macy’s location in the closed Seminole Towne Center mall, will be the largest in Central Florida, city officials said. Plans filed with the city show the new store would span more than 156,000 square feet and would include 850 parking spaces.
Demolition of the site is expected to begin in April with the Costco opening by early 2027, officials said, according to Fox 35.
Talks are in the works for more potential spots, including Pensacola and Miami. No opening dates have been released.
However, there will be at least one Costco opening in Florida this month, even though you can’t get a $1.50 hot dog there: a Costco distribution center is slated to open in the Southern Grove areas of Port St. Lucie, replacing a distribution center in West Palm Beach.

The Costco distribution depot will be at Southern Grove, a manufacturing, logistics and retail development area alongside Interstate 95 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Amazon, Cheney Brothers and FedEx have already built facilities there.

Costco made big changes in 2025
Costco reported $68.24 billion in net sales for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, which ended Feb. 15, Gary Millerchip, Costco’s chief financial officer, said in the call. That represents an 9.1% growth over the same period last year. Income from memberships was up 13.6%, Millerchip said.
Some of that may have been from recent changes the company has made.
Toward the end of 2025, Costco dropped the prices on four popular food items and added some new items. One study found that 16 different common breakfast items cost 30% less on average at Costco than at competitors like Walmart and Target.
Costco also added earlier hours for Executive members, allowing the top-tier members an extra hour in the morning during the week and on Sundays, and an extra half hour on Saturday mornings. The retailer also started staying open till 7 p.m. Saturdays for all members.
Last summer, Costco expanded its gas station hours for all members to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays and 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sundays. The move led to record fuel sales, Fox Business reported.
And more changes are coming. RetailWire reported in June that the company was testing scan-and-pay technology at a few locations to allow customers to scan their items as they put them in the cart and pay with their app on the way out.
