Students may be out for the summer at Destin Elementary School, but not the construction workers.
With front-end loaders moving dirt, and workers on top of brick walls, it’s obvious things are happening at the school located at the corner of Beach Drive and Kelly Street in Destin.
The new two-story, 30-classroom addition will house students in third through fifth grade. It will also feature a multi-purpose room and administrative suite to serve the entire campus.
“We have completed all the underground utilities, finished the slabs, and are now progressing with the vertical construction of our block walls,” Hilary DeMers, digital media and communications specialist with the Okaloosa County School District, said in an email.
“The construction is advancing as scheduled, and we expect to finish on time,” DeMers said.
Jacobs/Titan and Lord & Son Construction are doing the work. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2026.
