‘Broadway at the King Center’
The King Center announced three Melbourne Broadway premieres as part of its lineup for 2026-2027. Additionally, one show is currently playing on Broadway.

The King Center and The American Theatre Guild, the largest not-for-profit touring Broadway presenter in the nation, have orchestrated a season that includes “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Water for Elephants,” “Legally Blonde, The Musical” and “Hadestown.” The season will also include “A Chrstimas Carol” as an add-on.
“Our lineup reflects both the future and the very best of today’s theater,” says Amy Hamm, president and executive director, The American Theatre Guild.
On Dec. 1 and 2, King Center audiences can meet everyone’s favorite Scottish nanny in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” an internationally acclaimed hit musical critics and “a feel-good, family-friendly comedy that delivers,” according to “The Hollywood Reporter.” Based on the film, “Mrs. Doubtfire” tells the hysterical and heartfelt story of an out-of-work actor who will do anything for his kids.
It’s a Dickens of “A Christmas Carol” at the King Center on Dec. 21. Audiences young and old will leave the theater enchanted by this timeless tale of the miraculous redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge. Guided by the ghosts of Jacob Marley, and Christmas Past, Present and Future, the world’s most famous miser undergoes a magical, stirring transformation into a marvelous man of overflowing love, kindness and generosity. The production features a faithful, fun-filled homage to Dicken’s original vision.
The Melbourne premiere of “Water for Elephants” is slated for Feb. 9 and 10. The New York Times calls it “stunning, emotional, heart-filled and gorgeously imaginative.” After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life—and love—beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age.
“Legally Blonde, The Musical” takes to the King Center stage April 2 and 3, 2027. The ultimate Broadway tribute to girl power, the show follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be both legally blonde and the smartest person in the room.
Rounding out the season is “Hadestown,” another Melbourne premiere, scheduled April 20 and 21. Winner of eight 2019 TonyAwards including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and original director Rachel Chavkin is a love story for today, and always.
Intertwining two mythic tales, that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone, “Hadestown” is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience.
