We are down to the final four.
MetLife Stadium will host the semifinals of the Club World Cup, both on July 8 and July 9, with the winners to advance to the championship match on July 13.
Fluminense will face Chelsea in the first semifinal game on July 8. The Brazilian side, Fluminense, has been underdogs throughout the tournament but they have shown great tactics and play throughout the knockout rounds. Lead by their 40-year-old captain Thiago Silva, they have taken down both Inter Milan and Al Hilal to reach the semifinal.
This matchup also marks a reunion between Silva and Chelsea as the center back played for years with the opposition including winning the Champions League in the 2020/21 season. Silva and Fluminense will push for another upset to reach the final on Sunday.
On the other side, Chelsea have been on a roll after their 3-1 loss to Flamengo. Their last matchup versus Palmeiras was close after their incoming wonderkid, Estevao, scored a goal in the 53rd minute to even the score 1-1. An unfortunate own goal for Palmeiras in the 83rd minute allowed Chelsea to grab the lead and the win.
The English team will be favored in the matchup with the European experience and the numerous transfers they have completed before and during the Club World Cup. But Fluminense has beat the odds each game and will look to do it once again.
