When the restaurant Fuku at CityPlace opened to customers on July 16, that was just the beginning.
On Thursday, Aug. 20 the makers of the most beloved and sought after chicken sandwich on the planet (I can’t really back that up, but possibly) will hold an official grand opening celebration packed with exclusive giveaways, interactive experiences, and plenty of surprises.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and kicks off with Fuku’s “First 77” giveaway. A nod to the restaurant’s lucky number, the first 77 guests through the doors will get exclusive swag, followed by additional Fuku merchandise giveaways.
The CityPlace location is the second brick-and-mortar location in the state after Coral Gables, which opened this past spring, and is the creation of chef, author and restaurateur David Chang.
The restaurant was created a little over 10 years ago and it was one very special chicken sandwich that was the catalyst for the entire concept. That sandwich, now known as the O.G., was originally created as a reward for chefs at the end of the day at Chang’s NYC MomoFuku Noodle Bar. It was loved so much by the staff that it eventually earned a spot on the menu. This lightning-in-a-bottle flavor bomb, however, was just too good and before long it spread its wings, left the nest and became the basis for the first Fuku restaurant that opened in 2015 in the East Village.
In addition to the O.G. Sando, the menu at Fuku is packed with one delicious temptation after another from the Sweet & Spicy sandwich and tenders, to hot and crispy waffle fries, pickled cucumber salad and their spicy slaw and much more.
In addition to the “First 77” giveaway, Fuku at CityPlace will be offering free waffle fries with any purchase from 1 to 3 p.m. that day. There will also be menu samplings throughout the day, merchandise giveaways and more.
“We’ve been incredibly grateful for the warm welcome from the West Palm Beach community since opening our doors,” said Claudia Lezcano, CEO of Fuku. “Our grand opening is our opportunity to celebrate alongside our guests, our local partners and the CityPlace community while showcasing everything that makes Fuku more than just a fried chicken restaurant.”
